The terminology can make a simple decision feel more complicated than it needs to be. The most important distinction is this: a school can be registered, a training can meet that school's registered program standards, and a graduate can later choose to register as a teacher. These are connected steps, but they are not the same thing.

1. What Is Yoga Alliance?

4. What Does RYT 200 Mean?
RYT 200 is an entry-level teacher credential for someone who has completed a single 200-hour training with an RYS 200 and successfully applied to Yoga Alliance. Multiple shorter courses cannot simply be combined to create the initial 200-hour credential.
Yoga Alliance currently lists no teaching-hour requirement for the RYT 200 credential itself. That does not mean a graduate is finished learning. It means the person has completed a recognized foundational training and may begin building experience through teaching, mentoring, continuing education, and further study.
5. Does a Yoga Alliance Certificate Let You Teach Anywhere?

7. How Much Does RYT 200 Registration Cost?
Yoga Alliance's published application guide currently lists a one-time, non-refundable application fee of USD 50 and annual membership dues of USD 65, for a first-year total of USD 115. Fees can change, so check the official Yoga Alliance website at the time you apply.
This cost is normally separate from your school tuition. If a course says Yoga Alliance certification included, ask whether that means the school's certificate, the graduate's personal registration fee, or both. In most cases, it means the eligible training and school-issued certificate, not lifelong personal membership.
8. Does Yoga Alliance Registration Guarantee a Great School?
No credential can guarantee chemistry, inspiration, or excellent teaching in every classroom.
Registration tells you that a school has entered a standards framework. It does not tell you everything about class size, teaching style, faculty stability, accommodation, personal feedback, or how supported you will feel.

RYS 300 and RYS 500 refer to advanced or combined school programs. RYT 500 is a teacher
